Biography
UTEP Football Head Coach Scotty Walden announced Ryan Stanchek as UTEP’s new co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach on Feb. 29, 2024.
Stanchek served as Walden’s co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Austin Peay in 2022. The Governors claimed a co-ASUN Championship that season.
Following his time with the Governors, Stanchek was the offensive line coach at Tulsa during the 2023 season. The Hurricane ranked no. 35 nationally in rushing offense, a 50-spot improvement from the season prior. Tulsa’s offensive line paved the way for a no. 25 national ranking in third-down percentage. The O-line also yielded 26 sacks in 2023, an improvement from the season before (45 allowed in 2022).
During 2022 with the Govs, offensive lineman Chandler Kirton was named ASUN All-Conference and a freshman All-American. Austin Peay ranked no. 25 nationally in rushing offense (189.3). The Governors finished 7-4 overall in ’22.
He spent the 2021 season as Florida A&M’s co-OC/O-line coach, helping the Rattlers reach the school’s first FCS Playoff appearance since 2001.
Before that, Stanchek spent two seasons (2019-20) as the offensive line coach at Southern Miss. He was on the staff when Walden was the Golden Eagles’ co-offensive coordinator in 2019 and interim head coach in 2020.
Prior to joining the Southern Miss staff, Stanchek was a member of the Alcorn State coaching staff for five seasons (2014-18), beginning as an offensive line coach before earning a promotion to run game coordinator in 2016 and ultimately offensive coordinator for the 2018 season.
During Stanchek’s time at Alcorn State, the Braves won the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s East Division title five times, the SWAC Championship three times, played in the Celebration Bowl two times, and won the SBN Sports Black College Football National Championship in 2014.
At Alcorn, Stanchek coached 13 offensive linemen to the SWAC’s all-conference team and also mentored eight HBCU All-Americans during his tenure.
Stanchek began his coaching career on the high school level coaching the offensive line at Solon (Ohio) High School in 2010. He moved to the collegiate ranks a year later as an offensive quality control coach at Florida State in 2011, working with the offensive line. He spent the next two seasons (2012-13) as a graduate assistant coach at Indiana, coaching under head coach Kevin Wilson.
A two-time All-America offensive lineman at West Virginia, Stanchek started 48 consecutive games in Morgantown. He helped the Mountaineers win four bowl games in four years, including the 2006 Sugar Bowl and 2008 Fiesta Bowl, and Big East Conference titles twice (2005 and 2007).
Stanchek signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2009 before playing for the Arena Football League’s Cleveland Gladiators in 2010.
A Cincinnati native, Stanchek earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from West Virginia in 2008. He and his wife Jessica have three children: one daughter, Bella Sky, and two sons Skyler and Trace.
