Biography

Tony McClain's joined the ULM Warhawks in 2026 where he will be the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach. Prior to his arrival in Monroe he spent two seasons on the East Texas A&M Lion coaching staff in 2024-25 as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator.

McClain spent the 2023 season as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator for Saint Augustine's, a Division II school in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was a part of a defense that ranked No. 6 in pass defense and No. 12 in tackles for loss nationally. He was also the defensive line coach and defensive coordinator at Southwestern Oklahoma State in 2022. 

Before Saint Augustine's, McClain spent time in the professional ranks of the USFL with the Houston Gamblers as the running backs coach. After the USFL, McClain was selected to take part in the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship, working with the Dallas Cowboys.

McClain was named to FootballScoop's Minority Watch List in 2022, being named No. 48 out of 125 top minority rising stars. 

He also worked at Texas Wesleyan as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach from 2019-2022. During his stint at Texas Wesleyan, he coached a defense that ranked No. 1 in the state of Texas in sacks and had players receive all-conference honors and the defense being ranked nationally in tackles for loss, interception returns, and sacks.

His coaching career began at Austin Westlake High School, mentoring many Division I commits, including Braden Cassity, the 2017 6A Defensive Player of the Year, who went on to play and be the team captain at Oklahoma State.
 
McClain played in the Arena Football League for the Kansas City Brigade and the Rio Grande Valley Dorados. He played collegiately at Auburn and Southern Illinois. He received his Bachelors from Southern Illinois.
 
He and his wife, Kasey, have a daughter, Tatum.
