CI Week 17 Highlights
12/25/2017
On behalf of all of us at Coaches Inc., we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season! Please find highlights from Week 17 below.
Bullock, Bernard lift Bengals over Lions, 26-17
On paper, Cincinnati had little chance to beat Detroit on Sunday. The Bengals were already eliminated from playoff contention and were facing a Lions team in the middle of the NFC Wild Card race. To make matters worse, the Bengals lost five starters to injury during the course of the game. Through it all, Cincinnati persevered. Defensive ends Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson led the way up front for the Bengal defense as they combined for nine tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack and one pass breakup. As a unit, Cincinnati held Detroit to 87 rushing yards and just 6-for-15 on third down. Congratulations to Bengals DL Coach Jacob Burney on the win and dominant defensive performance!
Quinton Flowers leads USF to wild come-from-behind victory in Birmingham Bowl
For the second year in a row, South Florida pulled off a dramatic win over a Power 5 opponent in the Birmingham Bowl. After defeating South Carolina in overtime last year, the Bulls rallied with 21 points in the fourth quarter to stun the Red Raiders, 38-34. USF QB Quinton Flowers had a huge second half as he accounted for four touchdowns including a 26-yard scoring strike to WR Tyre McCants with 16 seconds remaining to complete the comeback. In the first half, though, it was the Bulls’ defense that came up with several big plays to keep things close while the offense searched for its rhythm. Safety Jaymon Thomas recorded his first career interception late in the first half with Texas Tech leading 10-3 and in the red zone. After a USF touchdown tied the score, safety Devin Abraham made sure it would remain that way when he registered his fifth interception of the year came up with less than a minute remaining in the half. With the win, the Bulls (10-2) finish their season with double-digit victories for the first time in program history. Congratulations to DB Coach Blue Adams (@CoachAdamsUSF) on the bowl win and stellar season!
Since the end of the college regular season, four CI coaches have accepted new jobs. Congratulations and good luck to the following coaches in their new positions:
